“One of the keys to a fantastic hotel experience is the quality of the service, and from the very first moment you enter ME London, the staff set the tone; although I arrived off a flight in the dead of night, the reception could not have been more welcoming. The vibe at this 5 star luxury hotel is that of a super cool private member’s club – which is not easy to achieve in a 157-room, 16-suite establishment – and everything about it oozes style, elegance and positive energy. In-built attractions include the amazing architecture by Foster & Partners, with an impressive atrium that reflects the geometric design of The Shard, an ever-evolving exhibition of contemporary art and sculpture, a roof top bar that is easily one of the best in London, a fabulous restaurant and the doorstep proximity of Covent Garden, with it’s theatres, restaurants and upscale boutiques…”
“Behind the concierge desk there’s a loop of Disney cartoons silently playing, which appeals to my sense of humour, as well as a rack of impressive awards and honours won by the hotel…”
GO ON, SURPRISE ME
“ME London is like a Neverland for grown-ups, where time passes by without you noticing, and it’s easy to be lulled into a dream like state from which you never want to wake up. Around every corner there is yet another surprise, a feature of the hotel protocol extending through to the room service. Opening the door to a gentle knock, I didn’t know what to expect next…a perfectly timed delivery of chocolate and vanilla macarons, a dish of beautifully presented fruit, a small gift of home-made cookies? As I watched the 8pm light show in the atrium one evening, a complimentary glass of chilled champagne was slipped into my hand and each night I returned to my suite it had been decorated throughout with a romantic array of tealights. I discussed this with a fellow guest at dinner one evening who said he’d found a huge heart drawn on his bathroom mirror with ‘We love you! Have a great day!’ handwritten in the centre… He initially thought there must have been some mistake, that housekeeping had confused his room with that of honeymooners…but his enquiry down to reception was met with the same response mine was – every guest receives this bespoke VIP treatment. Goosebumps… To you, all these pampering gestures may sound a little cheesy and over the top, but once you’ve experienced them for yourself, they come across as truly touching in their authenticity and are totally unforgettable – the love is in the details…”
THE LOST BOYS
“RADIO, the award-winning skyline bar, is another unexpected surprise… With no real plans for the evening, I caught the separate (dark and moody) lift up to the 10th floor with the intention of taking a few photographs as dusk fell. Three hours later I was still lost up there, chatting to interesting people while admiring a spectacular wrap-around view that includes almost all of London’s architectural icons – The Shard, The London Eye, the Walkie Talkie building, The Gherkin, Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. Outdoor heating, candles in chrome storm lanterns, fire pits, cool live DJ music, super stylish furnishings, giant flower/herb boxes and retractable roofing all create the perfect ambience for relaxation, summer or winter…”
“During the day, the scene at RADIO is equally impressive and the terrace is a popular place to have either a light lunch or afternoon tea. Reach out and ‘almost touch’ The Shard and, if the hotel’s penthouse is not occupied, ask for a tour round to see even more dramatic views and the suite’s exclusive access opening out on to the roof …”
DON’T WAKE ME UP/SUITE DREAMS
“Rooms and suites at ME London are extremely well equipped, have self adjusting multi-coloured ambient lighting and fantastic views over the Thames on one side of the hotel and, on the other side, a view over Aldwych directly into Covent Garden’s theatre-land. Sliding black-out shutters keep out both daylight and any hint of traffic noise from the busy boulevard below…”
“The low beds are super-comfortable and in the spacious bathroom, a rain shower built for two is a thoughtful touch…a deep bath, separate vanity area and eco-friendly toiletries too…”
“Located on the ground floor of the hotel is STK restaurant, renowned for it’s steaks. Although I’m almost 100% vegetarian, I do eat fish occasionally and I had the most fantastic meal, finding many choices on the menu suitable for the health conscious. I ordered a traditional French bouillabaisse, which was delicious and came with a gigantic, extremely tempting blue cheese brioche on the side (you’ve been warned), then an exquisite mushroom risotto to follow. Both dishes were up there with the best I have ever eaten anywhere. A ‘Pink Lady’ non-alcoholic cocktail served before the meal, then a glass of Merlot with it were the perfect accompaniments …”
AM I STILL DREAMING?
“If you’re starting to think that this all sounds just a little like a ‘fantasy hotel’, you’d be correct and as usual, I’m keeping the best for last. Have you ever seen a 007 film? Of course. And the cast is mainly gorgeous, right? Well, that sums up the staff at ME Hotel. And the senior management? As handsome as movie stars and both frequently mistaken for James Bond himself – no, I kid you not! So, cancel your plans, take flight and follow your dreams – please, come and stay with ‘ME’…”
“I was intrigued when I arrived, in a state of complete awe and excitement during my stay and on cloud nine for days and days after I left – ME London is a dream hotel; take me back to Neverland…” NICKY SUMMER
