Dear Reader,

FRANCE gave me life after lockdown! Things ground to a natural halt at the online magazine over the past months as new content became increasingly hard to deliver, and the shock of the ‘new reality’ kicked in. Every day has had to be approached differently – changing rules and regulations and a whole new system of socialising and non-socialising having to be taken into account while covid is in our lives. It’s been exhausting!

We currently cannot travel to the States, and that may not be possible for a long time, unless an effective vaccine is developed, therefore we are focusing now on more European-centric topics. Every year I normally travel at least twice to France – once to Paris for business and once to the South for a holiday. This year, as soon as we were free to travel, I got on Eurostar to visit Paris for the first time ever as a ‘tourist’. The city was almost empty of visitors, the attractions more comfortable to enjoy ie the Eiffel Tower, Versailles, a cruise on the Seine, The Louvre, The Rodin Museum. I’ve walked almost everywhere, while the city has been bathed in an extraordinary heatwave, and as I’ve done so I’ve come across scenes I’d never have noticed while travelling by car. Music is everywhere, the beauty of the gardens, statues, memorials, bridges, and the banks of La Seine itself… all of it breathtaking.

I’m going to write first hand about the most memorable places I’ve been and the wonderful people I’ve met along the way, the online magazine having gradually become more of a personal account of my favourite experiences. I’ll also include my recommendations for the South of France including Cannes, St Tropez, Cap D’Antibes, St Paul De Vence (inc. La Colombe D’Or as pictured above) and Monte Carlo.

Wishing you continued good health and happiness,

Nicky Summer
