As we welcome ski season in the Alps, we’ve created a special cocktail, ‘The Snowstorm’, for international florist Rob van Helden of RVH Floral Design using the recently launched ‘LEOUBE’ gin from Provence (see further down the page). The cocktail is unique in that it features fir brandy, an unusual ingredient that gives it a wintery, Alpine flavour, and the glass is garnished with a snowy branch of icing sugar-coated rosemary (posing as a fir branch). Celebrating the 35th Anniversary of founding his company with his sister Patrice, Rob is best known for his empathic floral creations that always perfectly capture the emotion behind a special occasion – whether it be an Alpine themed Batmitzvah luncheon (as pictured here), a celebrity wedding, glamorous party, global fundraiser, or other more intimate soirée…

GIN-UARY COCKTAIL: The Snowstorm
3/4 ounce gin, LEOUBE
3/4 ounce Bitter Bianco
3/4 ounce dry vermouth
1/2 ounce Douglas Fir brandy
To decorate: A ‘snowy branch’ garnish
METHOD: In a cocktail shaker (this one pictured above is via http://www.almostessential.com) 2/3 filled with ice, pour in the Leoube gin, Bitter Bianco, dry vermouth and Douglas Fir brandy; stir 20 seconds to combine. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Optionally garnish with a “snowy branch”.
To make the ‘snowy branch’, take a cleaned rosemary sprig and coat lightly with egg whites using a silicone pastry brush. Shake off any excess liquid and immediately dip into a shallow bowl filled with about a 1/4″ of icing sugar. Swirl the rosemary sprig around to coat and allow to dry. Once dry, use the garnish to decorate your cocktail.
