INTRO BY NICKY SUMMER: “When I first came across the work of Bordoni Films via friends of mine in the events business, I was struck by its cinematic qualities and the expert editing that told a full romantic story rather than only capturing the magic of one day. I just had to showcase their work here in the online magazine and add my own endorsement of their projects for UHNW clients and event designers at the very top of the profession. Meet Alessandro, founding partner in the company!”

Our wedding cinematography team has truly thrived by embracing personalized service, creativity, and meticulous attention to detail. Our focus has always been on serving discerning clientele with a penchant for high fashion and an exclusive lifestyle, providing them with unforgettable experiences…”

NS: “Alessandro, I understand both you and Sole are originally from Italy; what was it that inspired your move to Los Angeles?”

AB: “The decision to relocate from Italy to Los Angeles was driven by two primary factors: the opportunity to expand my knowledge in filmmaking and to elevate our business to the next level. While the majority of our clients may not be located in Los Angeles, being in this vibrant city allows us to tap into valuable resources and connections that enhance our work as wedding cinematographers. One of the reasons for choosing Los Angeles is the immense value and dedication that clients in the United States place on their weddings. Alongside talented wedding planners, they really go the extra mile to create extraordinary and unforgettable experiences for their guests and families and this aligns perfectly with our own commitment to delivering exceptional service and capturing the essence of each celebration. Being based in Los Angeles also provides us with the opportunity to establish relationships with industry professionals, further enhancing our ability to deliver exceptional wedding cinematography. We’re able to tap into a vast network of talented individuals, including skilled videographers, editors, and other creative experts who share our passion for creating something truly epic. In summary, while most of our clients may not reside in Los Angeles, the city provides us with invaluable resources and connections to enhance our work…”

NS: “I know from my own experience that it takes a huge number of creatives to produce a fabulous piece of film – who’s on the regular Bordoni Films team?”

AB: “At the core of our team are me, Alessandro, and my partner Sole, the co-founders of Bordoni Films. Together, we lead the charge in bringing our productions to life! We’re supported by a talented and dedicated team of professionals who contribute their expertise to our projects as well. Our team includes editors, camera operators, drone pilots, marketing promoters, producers, and other skilled individuals who collaborate with us to deliver exceptional results. Each member brings unique skills and unwavering commitment to every production, whether working with us full-time or on a project basis. This approach allows us to tap into a diverse pool of talent, ensuring that each project receives the specialized expertise it requires. Through our combined talents and shared passion, we bring each production to life, capturing the unique stories of our clients in an extraordinary way.”

NS: “How do you find your clients, or how do they find you? This is really where any new story always begins…”

AB: “Finding clients is a dynamic and multifaceted process that involves employing a variety of techniques. There’s no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach, as we continuously work on multiple fronts to showcase our work and attract clients who appreciate our personalized service and exceptional wedding cinematography. This involves employing a variety of techniques such as advertising, networking, encouraging word-of-mouth referrals, attending industry events, magazine features, and engaging with our audience on social media.”

Over time, our work began to garner recognition, with our films featured in prestigious wedding magazines worldwide such as Brides US, Vogue, People, Style Me Pretty, Us Weekly, and others…”

NS: “When you meet new clients, how do you engage them and what do you tell them about your background and experience in the events industry?”

AB: “Our journey in film-making began twelve years ago with a focus on commercial and advertising productions in Milan; this provided us with invaluable experience in crafting visual narratives and honing our technical skills. As we immersed ourselves in this dynamic field, we realized our passion for capturing live events and preserving the magic of special occasions. The natural progression led us to venture into destination weddings, where we could combine our love for storytelling with breathtaking locations around the world. Starting in my home country Italy, which is a sought-after destination for American couples, we captured the beauty and romance of these occasions, ensuring each film reflected the unique essence of the couples. Over time, our work began to garner recognition, with our films featured in prestigious wedding magazines worldwide such as Brides US, Vogue, People, Style Me Pretty, Us Weekly, and others. Our experience in film-making spans diverse domains, from the glamour of commercial productions, and music videos for major artists to the intimate and emotionally charged atmosphere of weddings. This breadth of experience has definitely enriched our storytelling abilities, enabling us to approach each project with a unique perspective. We’re grateful for the journey that led us to where we are today, and we continue to strive for excellence in every endeavor while still learning something new every day.”

NS: “Working between Los Angeles and Italy sounds like a dream lifestyle…”

AB: “The decision to establish ourselves in Los Angeles stems from its undeniable allure as a hub of filmmaking and endless opportunities. As a filmmaker, there is no better place to be than a city bursting with creativity, where innovation and collaboration thrive. Moreover, Los Angeles embodies the spirit of American culture, which has always played a significant role in shaping our artistic vision. At the same time, our ties to Milan are deeply rooted in my Italian heritage. The summertime in Europe is when wedding celebrations and events are particularly abundant, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the beauty and romance of European destinations. This seasonal migration allows us to create an even more enriching and diverse portfolio, capturing the essence of love stories across different continents and cultures. Our ability to live and work between different countries has not only broadened our creative horizons but also enables us to better serve our clients. By spending more time in Los Angeles, we can readily cater to our primarily U.S.-based clientele, while our presence in Milan during the European wedding season ensures we are readily available to capture the magical moments of couples tying the knot on that side of the Atlantic. This unique living arrangement truly enhances our journey as filmmakers, allowing us to draw inspiration from two distinct cultural landscapes while delivering an exceptional and globally-minded experience to our clients. We feel incredibly fortunate to call both Los Angeles and Milan our homes, as each city contributes its own unique essence to our creative process…”

One of our greatest strengths lies in our ability to anticipate the needs of our clients; this skill has been especially valued given the frequent presence of celebrities and high-profile guests who trust us with their special occasions. Our discreet and professional approach has earned us much appreciation in these circles.“

Alessandro Bordoni, co-founder Bordoni Films

NS: “Alessandro, your work has huge emotional impact – I was teary-eyed when I watched one of your films and I don’t even know the couple featured in it! What do you believe sets your work apart and makes your films so empathic?”

AB: “What truly sets us apart is the remarkable fusion of Italian culture and aesthetics that runs through our veins, infusing our work with a distinct flavor. This unique blend of editorial and cinematic styles adds an unparalleled touch to the weddings and events we capture, whether it be in the remote Balinese islands, luxurious Californian estates, or ancient castles overlooking the serene beauty of the Lake Como or Amalfi Coast. Our team’s creative prowess extends beyond weddings, thanks to our extensive experience in advertising production in Hollywood and commercial projects. This diverse background equips us with a comprehensive set of filmmaking tools, allowing us to approach each project with a fresh eye. We’re deeply grateful for the opportunities this experience has provided, allowing us to consistently exceed expectations and create unforgettable memories for our couples…”

AB: “We deeply understand that each couple is a world of its own and that’s why we take a tailored approach to every client we work with. We pride ourselves on being able to seamlessly blend into the background, crafting films that perfectly reflect the unique personalities of the couples we serve. Our aim is to capture not only the visual beauty but also the vibrant energy and individuality of each celebration. Confidentiality and professionalism are also sacred to us. We fully respect and safeguard the privacy of our clients, ensuring that their trust is well placed. To sum it all up, I’m humbled and privileged to lead the remarkable team at Bordoni Films alongside my talented partner Sole. While we may be at the forefront, it’s important to note that our success is fueled by the collective talent and dedication of our exceptional team, spanning from pre to post-production. Together, we have built a team that is passionate about delivering outstanding wedding cinematography…”

NS: “One of the major benefits of being involved in the event filming business is that it generally involves travel; which countries has your work take you to?”

AB: “Our work has taken us to various countries around the world, providing us with diverse cultural experiences and breathtaking backdrops. Prior to the global disruption caused by Covid, we traveled extensively, capturing events in different corners of the globe. In recent years, our focus has shifted primarily to the United States and Europe. Each country offers its own unique charm and cultural influences, allowing us to infuse our films with a rich tapestry of international flavors. We embrace the opportunity to explore new destinations and capture the beauty and energy of celebrations across different continents. While the past two years have presented challenges due to travel restrictions, our commitment to providing exceptional wedding cinematography remains unwavering. As the world recovers and reopens, we eagerly anticipate expanding our international reach once again, capturing extraordinary events in new and exciting locations. In summary, our work has taken us to a wide range of countries, including the United States, Mexico, Europe, the United Kingdom, the Middle East, and, of course, our beloved Italy. We cherish the opportunity to document weddings and events in different cultural settings and look forward to continuing our journey of capturing extraordinary moments around the world.”

NS: “Every event project has it’s challenges… what would you say are the issues that you most often have to overcome?”

AB: “The most challenging aspect of our work is the lack of control during the shoot and the need to cover multiple things at the same time; unlike on-set environments where there are dedicated professionals for each aspect of video production, in wedding filmmaking, we often find our skeleton team responsible for many things from capturing the footage to managing audio, lighting, set up gear, and creative composition. This requires us to make quick decisions on the spot, adapt to changing conditions, and be creative in capturing the best possible scenes with the available resources and timeline. It’s a skill that is developed through hard work, continuous learning, and years of experience. Wedding filmmaking demands versatility and the ability to think on our feet. We must navigate through various challenges such as unpredictable lighting, fast-paced events, and capturing spontaneous moments. Despite these challenges, the reward lies in creating a cinematic and emotive narrative that truly reflects the essence of the client’s weekend.”

NS: “Do you find yourself working with the same suppliers regularly? Even if they’re independent, most event suppliers rely on a core team of experts that think along the same lines and totally have their back…”

AB: “Absolutely! We firmly believe in the power of teamwork and recognize the vital role that each vendor plays in bringing a wedding day to life. When we find like-minded professionals who share our passion for creating extraordinary experiences, it’s only natural that we develop lasting partnerships. When we encounter suppliers who align with our vision and work ethic, it’s a joy to collaborate with them regularly. The trust and understanding that develop over time allow us to anticipate each other’s needs and deliver an even higher level of service to our clients. In summary, we truly value our relationships with supporting suppliers and cherish the opportunity to work with those who share our mindset and dedication to excellence. It is through this collaborative spirit that we bring the wedding weekend to its fullest potential, creating unforgettable moments for our clients.“

Whether it’s the wedding planner, photographer, florist, entertainment provider, makeup artist, or any other supplier, we value the collaboration and synergy that comes from working together seamlessly. These strong relationships contribute to a cohesive and exceptional event.”

Alessandro Bordoni, co-founder Bordoni Films

NS: “Finally, Alessandro, how do you and Sole visualise your film projects further evolving over the coming years?”

AB: “We see our work expanding in several exciting ways. Firstly, we aim to further establish ourselves as leaders in the field of wedding cinematography, pushing the boundaries of creativity and storytelling. Additionally, we seek to forge new collaborations and partnerships with like-minded professionals in the industry. By joining forces with talented individuals and companies, we can offer our clients an even more comprehensive and exceptional wedding experience. Furthermore, we are committed to staying at the forefront of technological advancements and industry trends. Embracing innovative filming techniques and utilizing cutting-edge equipment allows us to deliver the highest quality films that meet the evolving demands and expectations of our clients. We are excited about the future and the limitless possibilities that lie ahead for us in this world of wedding cinematography.”

My dream project is not limited to a specific idea or concept… instead, its the project that has yet to present itself – the one that will undoubtedly push our limits and challenge us to create something truly unique. While I don’t have a specific vision in mind, I’m open to extraordinary opportunities that allow us to elevate our craft and tell captivating stories. That being said, if I had to choose a project that would be truly out of this world, it would be producing a wedding film in a space station. The thought of capturing love and celebration in such a unique and awe-inspiring setting would be nothing short of extraordinary.”
