One of my favourite projects to date was a shoot that I organised inspired by the TV series, ‘Bridgerton’. It was staged at the beautiful Eaves Hall, and I had control of full creative direction which allowed me to plan out every detail carefully. I loved the colour palette in particular. C&B: “Kate, we love your ‘Bridgerton’ concept and your use of summer florals! How did you first launch yourself into the design business?”
KB: “After leaving a career in teaching, I wanted to find something that allowed me to show off a creative side of me that I have always had. After getting married myself, I realised I had loved collaborating with our wedding florist, so I started to dream up a career within the wedding industry where I’d be creating designs using flowers. Reflecting back on how far I’ve come makes me so proud. In the space of the last two years, I have started out on my own and flowered some wonderful weddings.”
C&B: “Can you tell us more about the inspiration behind your general floral design aesthetic?”
KB: “I’m constantly inspired by nature and how flowers grow. My arrangements are whimsical, textural, natural yet with a modern twist. Flowers are so beautiful and I like to showcase their natural beauty in design. When I’m creating arrangements, I consider the shape of a flower to help me to place it in a position I feel will show off each bloom. Each of my designs is filled with the most luxurious flowers that stand out from the crowd…”
C&B: “Although you personally prefer pastels, how do you ensure that your floral designs reflect the personal style and preferences of your clients?”
KB: “Every wedding that I’ve flowered has been unique, which is why I love the job so much. The designs for every wedding are bespoke, and I’m lucky to flower a variety of weddings that each have slightly different styles and colour palettes. When working with my clients, we go into a lot of detail about designs and the flowers I use so that we can include flowers they prefer or that hold some personal meaning to them.”
C&B: “Could you walk us through your design process, from consultation to the final arrangement?”
KB: “We go on a journey from initial consultations and creating mood boards to refining details along the way to make sure my clients are happy. My job is to give them wedding flowers that go beyond their expectations. For me personally, there is nothing more rewarding than being a part of someone’s wedding day. From getting to know the couple, making the whole design process fun and memorable, and creating wedding flowers that lift and complement their venue makes my job so fulfilling…”

C&B: “What challenges do you face as a floral designer, and how do you overcome them?”
KB: “Flowers are a natural, living product, which makes them unpredictable at times. You never know how flowers will arrive in the studio, and a lot of that is out of our control; I’m learning to embrace this. With time and experience, I’ve learned how to prepare for and understand certain flower types that may be trickier to work with.”
C&B: “How do you source your flowers, and are you able to prioritise local suppliers in your area?”
KB: “Sourcing British blooms from local growers always gives a design an added wow factor, so I always use local growers where possible, depending on availability and the time of year…”
