SARA MAZZELLA, ITALY

Growing up in Emilia-Romagna has profoundly influenced the way I work. This region is known for its hospitality, conviviality, and its ability to make every guest feel at home. Here, hospitality is a way of life before it is a service. This is the same philosophy I bring to every wedding I organise. Attention to detail is essential, but what truly makes an event special is making every guest feel genuinely welcomed. Our region also offers historic villas, vineyards, charming villages, and exceptional venues, making it one of Italy’s most fascinating destinations for destination weddings…”

Sara Mazzella is a wedding planner based in Emilia-Romagna, Italy. Through her company, Sara Mazzella Wedding Planner, she specialises in creating elegant weddings with sophistication but without ostentation. Her goal is to highlight each couple’s personality, ensuring that every aspect of their wedding truly reflects who they are…

C&B: “Sara, what originally inspired you to enter the world of planning destination weddings?”

SM: “What inspired me most was the opportunity to introduce international couples to the most authentic side of Italy while, at the same time, bringing their own cultures and traditions into our country, always respecting their customs and values. Every couple has a different story, shaped by their traditions, values, and dreams. My role is to listen, understand their roots, and transform them into a wedding that truly represents who they are. I love creating weddings where guests don’t simply attend an event but experience Italy through its landscapes, gastronomy, traditions, and atmosphere. Every decision is made to showcase the authenticity of Italy without ever losing the identity of the couple and their families…”

I believe every destination wedding should tell two stories: the story of the couple and the story of the place that welcomes them. When these two stories come together naturally, they create something that goes beyond a simple event. Whenever I design a wedding, I never ask myself what is trendy. Instead, I ask what truly represents the couple, because true beauty is not born from excess, but from coherence…”

C&B: “Can you outline one of the creative concepts that you’ve most enjoyed planning for a couple?”

SM: “Yes – one of the projects I’m most attached to was an Indian wedding. The most fascinating challenge was bringing together two seemingly distant worlds: on one side, the colours, rituals, and traditions of Indian culture; on the other, the elegance of Italian villas, landscapes, and architecture. Every detail was designed to create a balance between these two identities, allowing each culture to complement the other. It became one of the best examples of how wedding design can become a language that brings different cultures together…”

Whenever I design a wedding, there are values that guide every decision. Every wedding tells a different story, but there is one element I always consider essential: the beauty of the whole. Not the kind of beauty that tries to impress at all costs. Not beauty created through excess, passing trends, or details that demand attention. The beauty I look for is made of elegance, harmony, and refinement. It means creating something that moves people without being ostentatious and leaves a lasting memory without needing to be extravagant. I believe in quiet luxury, the kind of luxury that doesn’t need to explain itself because it is naturally perceived. A luxury built on quality, balance, and authenticity…”

C&B: “What would you say is the best multi-day itinerary you have curated for international guests so far?”

SM: “One of my favourite projects was created for a couple from New York who chose Florence for their wedding. We designed an entire week to allow their guests to experience the city like Italians, not simply as tourists. The journey began with a traditional Florentine dinner, followed by winery visits, a pre-wedding party overlooking the beautiful Piazzale Michelangelo, and a Catholic ceremony at the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, one of Florence’s most iconic landmarks. The reception took place in a historic frescoed villa, while the final day ended with a pool party surrounded by the Tuscan hills. The goal was to transform the wedding into a journey, creating memories that would last far beyond the wedding day…”

To me, simplicity is synonymous with elegance. I’m committed to creating refined weddings that reflect the sensitivity and taste of every couple. My interpersonal skills allow me to understand my couples’ wishes, their needs, and the experience they want to share with their guests…”

C&B: “Italy is renowned worldwide for it’s culture and incredible cuisine; what unique culinary or cultural experiences do you love introducing to foreign couples?”

SM: “I always encourage couples to go beyond the wedding day itself. Wine tastings, handmade pasta classes, pizza evenings, and visits to charming Italian villages allow guests to truly discover our territory and culture. Very often, these shared experiences become the most treasured memories of the entire wedding weekend…”

C&B: “Which recent wedding celebration left you feeling the most creatively fulfilled?”

SM: “My greatest satisfaction comes every time I can transform my-couples’ inspiration into something that exceeds their expectations. The most emotional moment is when they see their vision come to life and recognise their story in every detail. To me, wedding design is not simply about creating a beautiful setting. It is about designing an experience that moves guests from the very first moment and tells the couple’s story through every carefully considered detail…”
