BY NICKY SUMMER: “Mexico! What a beautiful tapestry of life, culture, and history. The vibrant colours, the lively spirit of Cinco de Mayo, and the awe-inspiring remnants of the ancient Mayan civilisation create an atmosphere that is truly enchanting. It’s wonderful how icons like Salma Hayek and Frida Kahlo embody the essence of this rich heritage. Salma’s portrayal of Frida in the film captures not just her artistry, but the passionate, complex spirit of a woman who transformed her pain into stunning beauty, much like the intricate designs found in traditional Mexican decor…”

RECIPES: MEXICAN MARGARITA
Ingredients for 1 cocktail:
2 oz Patrón Silver Tequila
1 oz fresh lime juice
1 oz orange liqueur (Cointreau or Triple Sec)
A mix of salt and cayenne for rimming the glass
Lime wheel or wedge and sliced jalapeño for garnish
Ice
Instructions:
1. Prep Your Glass: Put your glass/es in the fridge for 15 minutes to chill; take out and rub each with a lime wedge around the rim. Then, dip each glass into a plate of salt and cayenne mix to coat the edge.
2. Mix the Ingredients: In a cocktail shaker, combine the Patrón Silver tequila, fresh lime juice, and orange liqueur. The balance of tartness from the lime and sweetness from the orange liqueur makes for an exquisite flavour profile.
3. Shake It Up: Fill the shaker with ice, then secure the lid and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds. This not only chills the mixture but also blends the flavours beautifully.
4. Strain and Serve: Fill your prepared glass with fresh ice and strain the margarita mixture into the glass. (Alternatively, pour into a stemmed coupe glass minus the ice should you prefer).
5. Garnish: Add a lime wheel or prop a lime wedge on the rim of the glass for colour and zesty aroma.
“Take a moment to appreciate the vibrant colour and aroma of your margarita. With each sip, let the refreshing flavours transport you to sun-soaked beaches and lively gatherings of Tulum and Cancun. Cheers to the good times and the joy of sharing a delicious drink with friends!”
SALMA HAYEK LAUNCH: “‘Like Water for Chocolate’ is a romantic drama based on the Laura Esquivel novel which was previously adapted as a 1992 film starring Lumi Cavazos and Marco Leonardi. The new series for HBO, produced by Salma Hayek, is set during the Mexican Revolution and follows Tita de la Garza (Guaita) and Pedro Múzquiz (Baida), a young couple unable to be together due to Tita’s family custom of the youngest daughter never marrying to take care of her mother until she dies. ‘Like Water for Chocolate’ is written and executive produced by Francisco Javier Royo Fernández. Salma Hayek Pinault, José Tamez and Siobhan Flynn serve as executive producers; the series premieres Nov. 3 on HBO!”
