Paula Boni (below, left) originates from the city of Poznań, located on the Warta River in western Poland, where she graduated from the faculty of cosmetology and physiotherapy with medicine. She has been running the PB Paula Beauty Academy & Aesthetic Clinic in England, which she opened in 2019 and has been developing dynamically over the past three years. Here, Paula talks about her experience in the beauty business to City & Beach Magazine and her new vegan skincare line, PB Unique:

I’ve always believed in the power of natural products and wanted to create a line of cosmetics with both caring and soothing properties. I also wanted to create a skincare line that helps improve the appearance and texture of the client’s skin at any time of life, whether struggling with blemishes or hoping to regain a youthful yet natural appearance.“

C&B: “Paula, why did you start a skincare line and did you already have a background in business?“

PB: “I opened a beauty salon in Poland ten years ago, which thrived. There, I gained experience in running my own company and experience in working with clients, and at the same time I was constantly training my skills. I moved to England  in 2016, which I had no doubts about because I knew the beauty industry inside out, I was passionate about it, and running my own salon was going to be my priority, wherever I chose to live. In 2019 I opened a PB Paula Beauty salon here in England; now, I can’t imagine doing anything else. I’m an accredited international trainer in nail styling and my mother, who works with me, is an accredited trainer in the field of aesthetic medicine so we decided to jointly expand our activity with training and thus the salon turned into a combined clinic and academy. I came up with the idea of creating my own skincare brand as I’d already been working in the cosmetics industry for 10 years and during these years I’d  noticed that my clients, especially those with problematic skin, generally have difficulty sourcing then selecting the right products for themselves. So, I thought about a line of cosmetics where the various products would complement one another and all products work together most effectively on the skin…”

C&B: ‘Why did you decide to make your skincare product line vegan?”

PB: “First of all, vegan beauty products contain more nutrients for the skin; plants provide the richest sources of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other essential nutrients. Since vegan beauty products are made out of plants, you can give your skin the fuel it needs to stay vibrant and youthful. Instead of rubbing harsh chemicals onto your skin – that can only speed up the ageing process – I just think that sticking to natural, healthy ingredients it’s the best way. Vegan packaging is also more environmentally friendly…”

In my opinion not only is animal testing cruel, but it’s also outdated and senseless. One of the most rewarding benefits of switching to vegan beauty products is having the ability to save hundreds of animals’ lives by yourself. If everyone switched to cruelty-free products, then millions or even billions of animals could be spared each year. For me, starting a vegan skincare brand really was the only option…

PB: “As veganism is all about minimizing suffering, cruelty-free companies like mine also have a mission to use recycled plastics and environmentally-friendly packaging. Through using vegan skin products you can also say goodbye to sensitive skin issues; I’ve noticed over the years that whether my clients had acne, eczema, rosacea, or skin that’s too dry or too oily, trying to find a skin care routine that works for them was a challenge. I truly believe that if you want to give your skin a break, using vegan products with natural ingredients can help you achieve a smooth, glowing complexion. And finally, we know that vegan cosmetics can save the lives of countless animals…“

The main active ingredients of my skin care products are hyaluronic acid and vitamins A, C and E; it’s a very good combination and a real collagen booster. My eye cream has a green tea extract and my facial oil is from Marula fruit, which is amazing for the skin…”

C&B: “Who is your target market when it comes to clients and customers?”

PB: “My ideal client is a person for whom wellbeing and a healthy lifestyle are important, someone who cares about the environment and for whom my cosmetics will complement her/his entire lifestyle. My customer is someone who’s looking for products with rejuvenating and healing properties based on natural but effective ingredients. I’m aware that people spend money on products and brands that match their values. This is evident in the emerging markets for products that are eco-friendly, organic, vegan, natural and/or ethically sourced…”

Currently, we’re quite happy to distribute the PB Unique product line directly through our website where customers can get professional advice on the selection of appropriate products, and through professional beauty salons where beauticians can individually choose the skincare for our clients. After issues related to the pandemic, our launch was delayed however the concept all came to life this year and my products finally arrived on the market at the end of March. For the last 3 months our products have been available in our online store, and you can order them for delivery all over the UK. PB Unique cosmetics can also be purchased directly in our PB Paula Beauty Academy & Aesthetic Clinic and from selected reputable clinics in the UK. By the end of this year we plan for our products to be available in most European countries via the internet shop and also through professional beauty clinics…”

C&B: “Which of your skincare products is the most popular?”

PB: “I would like to say that all of them, but seriously, after 3 months, we already have our two bestsellers: Marula Facial Oil (£45.00) – I must say it’s an absolutely amazing product I personally can’t live without; it works well on all types of skin and it has a special effect on tired, mature, dry skin, which is prone to irritation and redness. It reduces the first signs of aging and strengthens the hydro-lipid barrier of the epidermis and it also actively fights the photoaging process, rejuvenates the skin and visibly firms it, intensely moisturizes.  It has similar properties to argan oil, but it is much lighter and absorbs faster. Due to its antibacterial properties, marula oil is also great for the care of acne-prone skin, which may be full of impurities and active inflammations. I must say that once you try it you are hooked on it…”

“Our PB Unique cosmetics line has been on the market for only 3 months, and we’re lucky that Nina Naustdal (above, left), an award winning entrepreneur and fashion designer, has already reviewed it in a very positive way…

Paula Boni

PB: “Our typical client is a woman (although I would like my cosmetics to be bought by gentlemen also) who is a conscious client looking for a product that will nurture, rejuvenate and care for the skin in a comprehensive way. It will be a person aware that health is the basis of healthy skin, a person who  cares for the environment, for whom my cosmetics will complement her healthy lifestyle. I’d also like my PB Unique skincare to help people with problematic skin for whom it is extremely difficult to find  the right treatment. We have to remember that when we choose the right products , we all can have beautiful, healthy, glowing complexions…”

Paula Boni

PB: “The second most popular of our products is our Açai & Goji Berry Microdermabrasion Scrub (above, right). Infused with acai and goji berry, this scrub is rich in antioxidants and so is effective in reducing the signs of aging by slowing down the damage caused by free radicals. The natural formula gently removes dead skin cells and the skin’s excess natural oils are absorbed, leaving pores clear and inhibiting the formation of acne. The scrub instantly gives the skin a natural healthy glow. Once you combine the Marula Oil treatment and the Acai & Goji Berry Scrub, your skin feels totally re-born. However, next week we have four new products coming out, so who knows, one of these might be our new bestseller!”
