MAISON MARIAGE, ITALY

Weddings are not simply events; they are emotional experiences that become part of a family’s history. My mission is to design celebrations where beauty, intimacy and authenticity meet, where every detail tells a story that will be remembered for a lifetime…”

Silvia Baldan, Founder, Maison Mariage

Silvia Baldan is the founder and creative director of Maison Mariage Wedding & Events, where she specialises in creating weddings for couples who value authenticity, beauty, and the effortless elegance that Italy uniquely embodies. With an appreciation for rich cultural heritage and artistic traditions, Silvia expertly designs celebrations that capture the essence of each couple’s love story. Here we discuss design philosophy and beautiful European destinations…

C&B: “We love the name of your company, and also the regions of northern Italy you specialise in – Venice, Verona , Cortina and the Prosecco Hills. What first inspired you to become a wedding planner?”

SB: “I was inspired by the desire to transform emotions into experiences. Weddings combine everything I love: beauty, storytelling, design. Over the years, this passion has evolved into a creative vision , crafting weddings that are authentic, refined and tailored to each couple…”

My philosophy is simple: beauty should feel effortless. I believe in an aesthetic that is refined yet warm, elegant yet deeply human. I avoid anything overly constructed. Every element must contribute to a feeling and a storytelling…”

C&B: “How do you go about choosing a venue and incorporating the unique cultural elements of each location into your wedding designs?”

SB: “I never impose a design on any venue but I let the place speak. I study its colours, its history, its architecture, and texture and then I reinterpret those elements through my own creative lens while trying not to replicate any obvious cliché. I believe in harmony, balance and emotional coherence so I try to enhance each location while respecting its identity and elevating it in style…”

C&B: “As we are talking through the magazine to an international audience, how do you tailor your services to meet the needs of clients planning a wedding in Europe?”

SB: “For international couples, planning a wedding abroad can feel nerve-wracking. They need clarity, reassurance and a trusted local expert. Clear communication is fundamental; I work in English and Italian and provide summaries, translated documents and regular video calls. I simplify processes and ensure the every step is understood…trust comes from clarity and transparency, not only from creativity. I provide a highly curated, concierge-style experience: guidance on Italian legalities, cultural nuance, logistics and vendor selection. I simplify complexity: my role is to make the planning effortless and enjoyable, regardless of distance or time zone…”

Listening is my most important tool when creating a personalised ambience. I study the couple’s story, personality lifestyle and aesthetic preferences. From there I create a truly bespoke concept using mood-boards, palettes, floral ideas. Nothing is pre-set or copied; each wedding becomes its own editorial: a curated narrative where their identity is the protagonist…”

C&B: “Of all the weddings you have planned, which three have been the most memorable, and why?”

SB: “I remember a Venetian palazzo glowing with hundred of candles, its frescoed ceilings mirrored on a long imperial table in a reception where time seemed suspended. Another wedding blended Persian traditions with Italian refinement: handcrafted detail, symbolic setups and a mood that felt both ancient and modern. And, thirdly, I remember an emotional countryside celebration where the floral palette mirrored the landscape at sunset. What makes a wedding memorable for me is always the same: when the design feels like a reflection of the couple’s soul…”

C&B: “This all sounds incredible! What many guests don’t appreciate is the work that goes on behind the scenes. How do you handle logistical challenges, such as vendor coordination?”

SB: “Yes, organisation is a silent art! My priority is for the couple to feel calm and protected, knowing that every logistical aspect is being handled with precision. I work with a detailed lens, curated vendor teams and clear communication that keeps every moving part aligned. My goal is to maintain calm elegance behind the scenes so the couple experiences only the beauty of the day…”

I work with local vendors and artisans, from my area. Their touch adds soul to the design and I love involving them to create something meaningful so that every detail  gives depth and authenticity to the experience…”

C&B: “The world of wedding planning is always evolving – what themes do you currently see emerging?”

SB: “We’re entering an era of curated minimalist, sculptural florals and deeply personal storytelling. Couple are choosing authenticity over opulence seeking experiences not excess. Sustainability is evolving into ‘sustainable luxury’: fewer but better choices, crafted details. The focus is shifting from ‘more’ to ‘meaningful’…”

C&B: “Talking of sustainability combined with a luxury aesthetic, what do you believe is the importance of floral arrangements and décor in your wedding designs?”

SB: “In my opinion, floral design is essential; it provides the emotional architecture of a wedding. Flowers set the tone of the reception, create movement and shape the visual harmony of the day. They complement the venue and guide the guests experience. Combined with décor and lighting lighting, flowers define the atmosphere and make the design unforgettable…”

C&B: “Final question: What is your proudest achievement as a wedding planner?”

SB: “Building a brand recognised for authenticity and refined Italian sensibility. And, above all, earning the trust of the couples who choose Maison Mariage because they feel understood and emotionally connected to our vision…”
