TEAM GIACOMO LAI

I recommend anyone wanting to enter the fantastic world of wedding photography to not be overly influenced by the economic aspects of the business, but rather to focus on working with feelings and emotions. We put a lot of passion and determination into our work with the desire to always create something unique for our couples…”

Giacomo Lai, Wedding Photographer, Italy

Giacomo Lai is a photographer based in Tuscany, who, alongside his talented team – Marco and Matilde – has immersed himself in the world of weddings. With a desire to capture authentic emotions, the team documents the smiles, tears, hugs, and unique magic that make each love story distinct. Giacomo’s approach is defined by a passionate, elegant, timeless, and refined editorial style, which beautifully complements the romantic landscapes of Italy. Together, the team has discovered the perfect formula for creating unforgettable memories in this captivating realm of wedding photography…

C&B: “Giacomo, you have based yourself in one of most romantic destinations in the world – how would you describe your photographic style, and how has it evolved over the years?”

GL: “Our photographic style is inspired by fine art; a style that comes from America. The images are very bright and romantic, and each image is carefully crafted down to the smallest detail: light, colours, style, composition, and pose. We’ve revisited it, including a vintage touch with black and white images that make the photos timeless…”

What sustains our career is our ability to stay attuned to current trends and to continuously compare ourselves with the leading photographers in the industry, allowing us to incorporate an ever-growing wealth of visual information into our work. We are committed to cultivating our experience in the field, which consistently enhances our style year after year. We pay meticulous attention to every detail, both during the shooting process and in the subsequent editing phase, ensuring that our final output reflects the highest standards of quality and artistry…”

C&B: “In your opinion, what are the essential elements that contribute to you being a successful wedding photography team?”

GL: “First of all, organisation – having excellent problem solving skills and transmitting them throughout the team, then, in addition to the technical bases, it’s necessary to create excellent empathy between ourselves and the couples involved…”

We always prefer, whenever possible, to get to know the couple before the wedding in order to understand their personalities, which are often reflected in the final images. We recommend they discuss their own ideas with us, sharing inspirational images and mood boards to convey their photographic tastes…”

C&B: “On that subject, how do you go about building rapport with couples to make them comfortable in front of the camera?”

GL: “We always try to be kind and discreet, making the bride and groom feel at ease. We recommend that they don’t think too much about the photos or the wedding planning in general, but just on spending a wonderful day with friends and relatives – enjoying their day to the fullest!”

I’ve known my colleagues for many years so we act as a cohesive group. Before the wedding day, we meet as a team to discuss the details to be captured without leaving anything out. We do site inspections in advance, study the light and look for the right spots to take the photos. We always arrive ready and fully prepared for the wedding day; each of us knowing exactly where our individual responsibilities lie…”

C&B: “What would you say is the memorable experience you’ve had while photographing a wedding?”

GL: “Every wedding leaves something indelible, but particularly when I arrived at Villa Di Geggiano in Tuscany – it was a real leap into art, with enchanting internal rooms and a wonderful Italian garden – the location is of unique elegance; it was an incredible experience…”
