The approach of A Touch Of Kent is very much design-led, and the company is known for creating immersive, thoughtful spaces with florals at the heart of the story…”
Sam & Katie, A Touch Of Kent
A Touch of Kent specialises in high-end styling and floral design for weddings and corporate events. The studio is based in Kent, however their projects take across the UK, and occasionally further afield. Here we talk with Sam and Katie, the founders of the company…
C&B: “Sam, Katie – how did you first launch yourself into the floral design business and why?”
S&K: “It all started with Sam’s wedding in 2022. She’d hired a florist, but it just didn’t feel right – the vision wasn’t being seen. At the time, Katie and Sam had only recently met, and Katie had been making artificial wreaths during lockdown. Sam asked if she’d help with the wedding flowers. After the wedding, we were sitting in the garden, glass of wine in hand, and Katie said, “I’d love to do this for a living.” That night, Sam built a website, registered the company, and the rest was history. What we thought would be a part-time venture alongside our day jobs took off faster than we ever expected – we were fully booked within four months…”

Katie leads on floral design and has a very instinctive, rule-breaking approach. She’s not afraid to do things differently – she likes flowers to have meaning and movement, and to feel like they truly belong in their space. Our overall aesthetic is refined and contemporary. We want everything we create to feel purposeful and considered, but never overdone…”

C&B: “What are the most popular flowers and arrangements that your clients request, particularly for events and weddings?”
S&K: “There’s a real mix. Some of our couples are drawn to meadow-style designs, full of movement and texture, while others love something clean and minimal – white roses, structured shapes, and elegance. What ties everything together is our modern approach. We don’t follow outdated trends, and we don’t believe wedding design should feel ‘stiff’. We always bring a fresh point of view, while still keeping it deeply personal to the couple…”

We make it a priority to get to know our clients. Our process always starts with listening – we ask a lot of questions about their story, style, and vision. It’s never just about what flowers they like; it’s about understanding who they are and how they want their day to feel…”

C&B: “Could you walk us through your design process, from consultation to the final arrangement?”
S&K: “Once a couple enquires via our website, they fill out a short questionnaire so we can get a feel for their style. From there, we invite them to our studio for an initial consultation, where we explore ideas in more depth. Off the back of that, we create a fully bespoke proposal pack, filled with moodboards, sample florals, and design sketches. After booking, we bring them in again closer to the wedding date for a final run-through and planning session. Every step is tailored and collaborative…”

Weddings will always be part of what we do, however there’s a real buzz in the events space right now, and we’d like to be part of that conversation. We’re also passionate about connecting with like-minded brands who value creativity, style, and immersive experiences…”

A stand-out moment for ‘A Touch Of Kent’ was styling Studio Frantzén at Harrods (above). It was a dream brief and such a surreal moment for us – especially so early on in our journey. Walking into Harrods and seeing our designs in that space gave us so much confidence. It was a huge step forward for our brand and one we’ll never forget…”

C&B: “How do you source your flowers, and are you able to prioritise local suppliers in Kent?”
K&S: “We’ve worked with international wholesalers in the past, but we found the quality could be hit or miss. These days, we work closely with a fantastic local wholesaler who really understands what we’re about. That relationship makes all the difference, especially when we’re sourcing specific colour palettes or premium stems…”

We’d advise new floral designers coming into the industry to ‘be bold’. Not to follow the crowd. It’s easy to get stuck doing what everyone else is doing, especially in the wedding industry. But the magic happens when you stay true to your own creative style. Push the boundaries, try new things, and trust your instincts…”

C&B: “What challenges do you most often face as floral designers, and how do you overcome them?”
K&S: “The biggest challenge is probably managing expectations around budgets. Many people don’t realise the true cost of flowers – or how much time and labour goes into creating large-scale floral installations. We’re really transparent about pricing and we try to educate our clients along the way. We also offer creative suggestions to help them get the most out of their investment, like reusing flowers from ceremony to reception…”
