FLORALUXE, THE CÔTE D’AZUR

Last year, we had the extraordinary opportunity to contribute to the Cannes Film Festival, where we were honoured to arrange all the dinners at the Palais des Festivals for the judges, as well as for both renowned and emerging stars of the cinema. We are thrilled to renew our collaboration for the 2025 edition and to become the official florist of the Cannes Film Festival…”

Eugenie Blandeau is the founder of  FloraLUXE, a private floral design studio with the mindset of sustainability which is located on the Cote d’Azur. The brand offers private and corporate clients a tailor-made floral decoration service for luxury weddings, events and yachts. Here we talk about how her company started and the current trends for Valentine’s Day and weddings on the Riviera…

C&B: “Hello Eugenie, you live and work in an incredibly beautiful part of the world! How long have you been working in floral design and how did you first start?”

EB: “I began my floral design journey 25 years ago, back when I was in high school, initially as a hobby and a part-time job. After graduation, I pursued a non-floral career that took me to 37 countries around the world, ultimately leading me to Monaco, where I managed and built superyachts. However, with the birth of my second son, I felt the need for a change that would allow for a more flexible work schedule and a more creative environment. Consequently, flowers re-entered my life, and I opened my own floral design studio four years ago. My business has grown and during the high season my fixed team can include up to ten freelancers…”

C&B: “We love the fact that you’re so incredibly creative in your floral designs – as you specialise in weddings, how do you approach the design process to create arrangements that embody the essence of romance for your clients?”

EB: “To begin, we ask our clients to provide three simple words that describe their vision, although it’s beneficial if they have more to share. We base our design on their favourite colours and flowers, as well as the style and palette of the venue, allowing us to outline the initial design in advance. After that, we create a mood board featuring inspiration photos and digital mockups as we delve deeper into our design process and reach an agreement with the couple. We firmly believe that communication is key to creating a design that not only meets their dreams but also exceeds their expectations…”

C&B: “Valentine’s Day weddings are quite popular; how do you incorporate the theme into floral designs for significant events occurring around this date?”

EB: “The standard ‘all-white’ wedding of past times is no longer ‘a must’. Modern couples prefer to express their individual styles, values, and stories while highlighting the distinctive features of their venue or the season of their wedding. In this context, a pink and red Valentine’s theme integrates beautifully with their narrative. Last year, we created an all-red wedding that featured peonies, roses, calla lilies, and anthuriums, with a colour palette that transitioned from coral pink to scarlet red and deep burgundy. The personal story of the couple served as our inspiration for this design, and the wedding décor was a resounding success, garnering features in several wedding blogs…”

There’s an extensive variety of hues, tones, and tints, as well as cup forms of roses available today, making it difficult to imagine a wedding without them. It is indeed true that a rose enhances the romantic atmosphere of any wedding, and you’re certain to find one that perfectly complements your particular style or palette. One aspect that distinguishes our use of roses for weddings is our technique of opening the blooms or even reflexing the petals to create the ideal flower in full bloom. This ensures that the roses are in their finest form for that one special day…”

C&B: “Using red is a fantastic floral statement – the couple must have loved what you produced; and so good that you achieved all the excellent blog coverage also! Can you share another memorable wedding project where you successfully integrated roses and other romantic elements?“

EB: “There’s truly nothing more breathtaking than a venue with a stunning coastal view of the French Riviera that’s been adorned with flowers. To that end, we installed a ground arch for the ceremony of our clients Julie and Jo at the Domaine du Montleuze, which overlooks the renowned Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. Julie envisioned a timeless wedding with a modern twist; therefore, we chose a floral camaïeu of white, cream, blush, beige, and light peach to complement the blue of the sea while simultaneously harmonising with the façade of the venue…”

The most popular floral themes for 2025 are inspired by the blue of the sea; all-white, off-white, cream, and blush colour palettes also remain extremely fashionable for weddings. These are complemented by the Dolce Vita floral décor for welcome dinners and after-wedding brunches, featuring vibrant yellow, blue, and red flowers, fruits, and vegetables that resonate beautifully with the Cote d’Azur under the summer sun…”

C&B: “The scene you created looks absolutely gorgeous; there are so many beautiful locations to celebrate a wedding in your area. Which venues do you think are the most outstanding that we can recommend to readers alongside your floral design service?”

EB: “A few of my favourite venues located on the Côte d’Azur are the Four Seasons Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat, Château Saint Georges, Château Garibondy, Château de la Gaude and Domaine du Montleuze – however, there are many gems on the French Riviera…”

C&B: “With this year’s Valentine’s Day fast approaching, what is FloraLUXE offering clients to celebrate in a more intimate level?”

EB: “This year, we’re offering a special package that includes a floral arrangement along with a bottle of champagne. We do accept preorders for flowers, of course, in a red palette; however, we don’t offer the standard red rose. Instead, our selections may include pink, coral, salmon, scarlet, or burgundy flowers, primarily sourced locally and seasonally. All our arrangements are sustainable and are presented in a clear glass vase with a kenzan pin holder and water. We then add a selection of assorted ribbons and finalise the packaging, completing the arrangement…”

C&B: “Thank you so much, Eugenie, for that wonderful insight into your thriving business! We wish you all the very best for Valentine’s Day and much success during the year ahead…”
