PHOTOGRAPHER: NARGIS ASLAN

Weddings in Tuscany hold a very special place in my heart, not only because of the stunning scenery, golden light, and timeless charm, but also because I got married there myself just last year…”

Nargis Aslan is a photographer and content creator based in Frankfurt, Germany, who captures weddings globally. In our City & Beach Italian Wedding Series, we discuss the inspiration behind her career, her favourite locations, and the sense of comfort that her relaxed demeanour and meticulous preparation provide for her couples…

C&B: “Nargis, you got married in Tuscany yourself last year; this means you must know the area quite well and have an emotional relationship to it. What first motivated you to embark on a career in wedding photography, and how does your personality play a part in your success?”

NA: “It was pure chance that led me to wedding photography – but from the very first moment, I felt so much joy and passion that I knew almost instantly this was what I wanted to do long-term. At the time, I was working as a Senior Marketing Manager and was genuinely happy in my role. Still, the emotional connection and creative fulfillment I found in photography moved me so deeply that I decided to take the risk and follow my passion. This journey has shaped my artistic vision in a very personal way – focusing on capturing authentic, emotional, and timeless moments that truly tell a story from the heart…”

My style of photography is best described as emotional, elegant, and timeless with a documentary touch. I focus on capturing genuine moments – the quiet in-betweens, the deep glances, the unfiltered joy – always with a strong sense for natural light, soft tones, and aesthetic compositions…”

C&B: “What would you say makes your style different from other photographers?”

NA: “What differentiates my work is the way I blend editorial elegance with raw emotion. I approach each wedding with a storyteller’s eye and an artist’s sensitivity, aiming to reflect not just how the day looked, but how it felt. Clients often tell me that my images evoke warmth and intimacy – and that they can relive the emotions of their day through my work. I think that’s the biggest compliment I can receive, and exactly what I strive for in every story I capture…”

C&B: “Yes, you definitely capture both the high energy moments as well as the more serene aspects of the day absolutely perfectly! As the subject of our series is Italian Weddings, can you share a memorable experience you have had while photographing in Italy, and what made it particularly unique?”

NA: “One of the most memorable weddings I’ve captured abroad took place recently at Lake Como in Italy. The couple had traveled all the way from the U.S. and spent over two years planning their dream wedding – every detail was so thoughtfully curated. But on the big day, it rained. Not just a little – it poured, all day long. At one point, there was real concern that the ceremony at Villa Del Balbianello might not even happen as planned. But what made this experience so special was exactly that: despite the weather and the unexpected challenges, the day unfolded beautifully. It was a powerful reminder that weddings are ultimately about the couple and their story – not the weather, not perfection, but the love that brought everyone together…”

Current trends in wedding photography reflect a strong desire for authenticity and creativity. Couples are increasingly opting for photographers who capture genuine, unposed moments, emphasising real emotions over staged shots…”

C&B: “Yes, that is so important to remember. Talking of Villa Balbianello, which are your favourite wedding venues in Italy, and why?”

NA: “I’ve had the opportunity to photograph at many beautiful locations, and there are quite a few that I truly love – however, weddings in Tuscany hold a very special place in my heart. Not only because of the stunning scenery, golden light, and timeless charm, but also because I got married there myself just last year. Two of my absolute favourite venues in Tuscany are La Pescaia Resort and Villa Medicea di Lilliano; both are full of character and elegance, with that perfect mix of history and Tuscan romance…”

C&B: “To reassure your clients, which specific preparations do you undertake when traveling to ensure everything goes according to plan?”

NA: “I prepare thoroughly on both a technical and logistical level. I bring backup gear including camera bodies, lenses, memory cards, batteries, and always back up images on-site. I arrive one day early to scout the location, adjust to the light, and connect with the couple and planner. Timing is crucial for international weddings: transporting gear safely, arriving well-rested, knowing local customs or restrictions – especially for drone use, and building in extra time for potential surprises. Preparation helps me stay present, creative, and focused – so that on the day of the ceremony, I can fully tell the couple’s story without distraction…”

C&B: “Another important aspect is being able to effectively manage unforeseen challenges and/or last-minute changes…”

NA: “Yes – staying calm comes from experience – I’ve learned to focus on what I can control and maintain a positive, solutions-oriented mindset. This helps me remain present and ensure the couple’s experience remains smooth, no matter what surprises come up…”

When choosing a wedding photographer, couples should look for someone whose work resonates emotionally with them, as this ensures the photos will reflect their unique story. It’s also important to feel comfortable and at ease with the photographer, as this helps capture natural, intimate moments. Lastly, professionalism and experience are key to ensuring everything runs smoothly, from managing the timeline to handling unexpected situations with ease…”

C&B: “What current themes in wedding photography have you noticed that resonate with couples seeking to capture their special moments?”

NA: “Current trends in wedding photography reflect a strong desire for authenticity and creativity. Couples are increasingly opting for photographers who capture genuine, unposed moments, emphasising real emotions over staged shots. There’s also a resurgence of film photography, adding a timeless and nostalgic touch to wedding albums. Additionally, dynamic, cinematic styles and drone photography are becoming more popular, offering unique perspectives and capturing the energy of the day…”
