I capture love stories around the world in an honest, natural, and timeless way. The rugged beauty of my home near the Peak District, as well as the influence of my childhood in Scotland and Norway, has inspired my storytelling – it serves as a constant reminder of how I am driven to use light and landscape, with a couple immersed in it, to create something uniquely wild…”

Helen Rose is the creative force behind Helen Rose Photography, based on the edge of the Peak District National Park in central England. Drawing inspiration from her beautiful surroundings, Helen specialises in wedding and elopement photography across the UK and abroad, focusing on authentic storytelling and capturing the unique personalities of each couple. Equally at ease with intimate countryside elopements and grand city weddings, Helen’s passion for travel and connection with her clients ensures every celebration is documented with genuine emotion and artistry. In our conversation, she shares her inspirations, approach, and advice for couples planning their special day…
C&B: “Helen, your work is incredibly atmospheric – what first prompted your move towards photographing destination weddings?”
HR: “I’ve always been passionate about people, travel, and connection. Over the past 20 years of my professional photography career, destination weddings have naturally become a significant aspect of my work. This evolution occurred as clients began to request that I travel to capture their special day in my uniquely organic, warm, and romantic style…”
C&B: “When you’re travelling on a project, how do you tailor your photography to different cultural settings and traditions?”
HR: “Respect and understanding are essential, and before each wedding, I take the time to get to know each couple and understand the essence of what they want me to capture. We also have a phone conversation a couple of weeks before the day to finalise timings and the layout of the wedding, during which we can discuss the couple’s cultural traditions and the moments that matter most to them…”

My approach is unobtrusive; I am at the wedding to document the day – or days – as they unfold, respecting the boundaries set by the couple regarding where I am permitted to photograph, particularly during religious ceremonies. I focus on observing, adapting, and capturing the essence of each celebration without interfering with the experience…”

C&B: “How do you handle any unexpected challenges, such as travel delays or equipment issues, during destination shoots?”
HR: “Preparation and calmness are essential. I always arrive early to account for potential travel delays and do my best to scout locations in advance. I carry backup equipment – multiple camera bodies, lenses, and memory cards – so that nothing critical relies on a single piece of gear. Years of experience have taught me that adaptability is crucial; maintaining a sense of calm and creativity not only supports the couple during their celebrations but also allows me to provide a steady presence throughout the event…”

I offer my couples three main collections:
- The “Intimate Collection”, for elopements and small weddings.
- “The Full Day”, speaks for itself with full-day coverage and travel.
- “The Destination”, which covers multi-day destination celebrations.
Every package includes a pre-wedding consultation and editing in Helen’s signature style, with all images delivered in a private online gallery. Couples can also choose to add bespoke Fine Art Albums as an additional service to keep their memories beautifully preserved in print. Helen’s goal is always to create a uniquely seamless and personalised experience from booking to final delivery.
C&B: “What types of partnerships or collaborations do you aim to create when working in new locations?”
HR: “Collaboration is one of the best parts of destination work. I love connecting with local planners, florists, stylists, and venues who share my values and artistic vision. Working with local creatives adds authenticity to the final gallery and helps tell a story that feels rooted in the place…”
C&B: “Of these locations, which are your favourites, and why?”
HR: “As my style and work are heavily influenced by nature, being able to capture weddings and elopements in the heart of beautiful scenery is something that truly excites me! Therefore, my favourite locations are:
• Sweden: Lakes and forests as far as the eye can see, a very underrated location for destination weddings.
• Italy: Contains the dramatic landscape of the Dolomites as well as the dramatic coastlines and sea, all are pure magic.
• Norway: Sea, mountains and fjords makes it endlessly photogenic.
• Australia: Who doesn’t like an adventure to the opposite side of the world!
• Austria: Stunning natural scenery from the beautiful historic cities to mountains and lakes.

I come away from every wedding or elopement with a gorgeous story to tell. There is guaranteed to be a moment during the day when I get choked up and shed a tear or two behind the camera, whether it’s as the couple walks down the aisle, during their personal handwritten vows, or during one of the family speeches. This is proof of how invested I become in each wedding celebration and how well I get to know my couples…”

C&B: “What role does education play in your photography business, and how do you integrate it with your work?”
HR: “I offer workshops, mentoring, and educational opportunities to photographers and videographers in addition to my work in capturing weddings. For elopements, I provide highlight films alongside photography services, as the more relaxed pace of an elopement day allows me to effectively capture both the imagery and the essence of the event…”
C&B: “Which topics do you cover in your workshops?”
HR: “In my mentoring sessions, I am able to delve deeply into both the creative and practical aspects of running a successful photography business. Sharing what I’ve learned through workshops and mentoring not only supports others but also helps me evolve creatively and experiment with my techniques. This process has been instrumental in refining what I offer to my wedding clients. Teaching pushes me to articulate my own processes, sharpen my craft, and remain inspired.
I conduct intentionally small content and education workshops in the Peak District National Park, where a select group of like-minded photographers and videographers can experiment and learn alongside me. During these sessions, I demonstrate how I would photograph a micro-wedding or elopement. I provide a model couple and other suppliers to create a realistic setup, allowing participants ample time to produce content for their portfolios. Additionally, we spend part of the day – usually over lunch – learning from guest speakers who are industry experts.
I am also about to launch one-on-one content creation days, during which a photographer, videographer, or hybrid shooter – someone who does both photo and video – can work closely with me and the exceptional suppliers I recommend. This format enables them to create a unique vision they wish to capture for their own portfolio, and the bespoke workshop ensures that no one else will have the same content. Participants benefit from personalised tuition throughout the entire process.”

C&B: “You have a very good reputation in the industry; what would you say makes you the best choice as a wedding photographer?”
HR: “I bring a calm presence with a genuine ‘hype energy’ when needed, to every wedding. My artistic style is described as elegantly romantic storytelling inspired by nature, so couples get images that are both artistic and emotionally true. My clients often tell me they felt completely at ease, they could just be themselves and I helped them be calm not just in-front of the camera but during their entire day – and that’s the greatest compliment I could receive. I see each wedding as gaining a new set of BFFs and that’s what makes the results so personal and heartfelt…”
