Brett Galley is the CEO and Director of Special Events at Hollywood Pop Gallery, an innovative, full service event planning, design and destination company with big name talent capabilities. Her brand has been featured in many publications with ‘LOOK Magazine’ writing ‘Hollywood POP is considered one of the top luxury brand boutique event design companies around the world’. Here we discuss Brett’s start in the business, the steps it has taken to achieve the massive success of her brand and all the elements that make up a successful VIP event:

C&B: “Brett, congratulations on being one of the most respected planners in the event design industry; how long have you been in the business and what first prompted you to go into this career?”

BG: “I was raised in New York City and around the world by my journalist/artist mother and explorer father. My mother – the acclaimed artist Joyce Galley – opened her first art gallery in Greenwich, CT, over twenty five years ago, renting it out for parties in between art openings. My grandfather had been a movie producer and owned theaters; therefore, Joyce thought the word ‘Hollywood’ should be in the name. Specialising in Pop Art at the time, Hollywood POP Gallery was born. Following my time at art school and after a stint as Entertainment Director at Tavern on the Green, I decided to join the family business full-time and see how I could enhance HPG’s clientele experience. As the gallery became a hotspot for social events, we made the decision to satisfy the demand for full-service event planning, design, and entertainment bookings by taking HPG to the next level.”

Born out of a passion for the arts and a demand for exceptional service, we continue to honour the artistic and theatrical approach for each event we undertake. Our event planning and design USP centres around personalisation, creativity, and seamless coordination…”

BG: “Yes, we now have five fabulous ‘Team POP’ members full-time and eight when we are working multiple events. We have offices in both Greenwich CT and New York City. In a city like NYC, where people come from all over the world, offering cultural elements in event design – whether it’s food, décor, or music -can add a layer of sophistication. This can also be part of an international design influence, bringing the best of global luxury trends to the events we create worldwide…”

Over the years, clients of Hollywood Pop events and produced name talent include Robert De Niro, Whoopi Goldberg, Diana Ross, Bette Midler, Zendaya, Little Big Town, Hoda Kotb, Tommy Hilfiger, Tony Bennett, Katy Perry, Seal, Smash Mouth, Earth, Wind & Fire, Bon Jovi, Journey, and The Eagles…”

C&B: “You’ve just mentioned a fantastic list of amazing venues – what do you consider to be your biggest challenge when on a project?”

BG: “Some of the biggest challenges we might face revolve around the following factors: Weather during outdoor events can be unpredictable and has the potential to derail the occasion. Rain, extreme temperatures, or wind can all impact everything from the ambiance to the guest experience. To mitigate this, having contingencies in place like high-end tents, climate-controlled environments, or backup indoor venues is key. Also, luxury events often take place in unique or exclusive locations, which can sometimes pose logistical challenges. Ensuring that the venue is accessible for all guests, particularly VIPs, while maintaining the exclusivity of the location is essential. Remote or secluded locations can also complicate transportation and vendor setup, so careful planning is crucial. In luxury event design, the expectation is for everything to be of the highest quality. Additionally, with top-tier vendors, from caterers to florists to sound and lighting designers, coordination is a challenge when timelines are tight, and the execution must be flawless. Managing multiple vendors, each with specific requirements, while maintaining a cohesive event vision is crucial. Then there’s budget management and expectations – with luxury parties, expectations can be sky-high, which means that every detail must be perfect. Balancing high-quality design elements with budget constraints can be tricky, as clients may desire extravagant elements that come with a high price tag. Ensuring that the event is both beautiful and financially viable requires skillful negotiation and strategic planning. When it comes to personalisation of a special occasion, many aim to reflect the personality, tastes, and desires of the host or guest of honour. Designing custom elements, such as personalised decor, unique entertainment, or tailored experiences, requires a lot of attention to detail. These personalised touches must integrate seamlessly with the overall event, which can be challenging when trying to create something that feels fresh and distinctive but still cohesive. Finally, guest experience: At high-end events, the guest experience is paramount. From the moment guests arrive, they must feel a sense of opulence and comfort. This requires detailed planning on everything from the greeting process and transportation to VIP accommodations and entertainment. Ensuring that the event runs smoothly without hiccups, and that guests’ every need is met, takes significant foresight and coordination. While these challenges are considerable, they are also part of what makes the process of creating a truly memorable luxury event so rewarding. With careful planning and an experienced team, these obstacles can be transformed into opportunities for creative problem-solving and elegant solutions.”

C&B: “It’s a lot – not many people fully understand the pressures and the volume of behind the scene activity. How do you relax after a major production?”

BG: “Planning and designing luxury parties are both exciting and challenging. When it comes to organising high-end events, it involves a lot of creativity, coordination, and attention to detail, which can be intense. To counteract that kind of pressure, I often turn to Soul Cycle, yoga, spending time outdoors, museum walks, catching up with friends and family and catching up on sleep!”

C&B: “Final question, Brett – do you have any current formal collaborations with others in the lifestyle business and what would be your dream project going forward?”

BG: “In the lifestyle business, we’re consistent contributors, producers, and designers for RSVP Club Official, an exclusive membership community for luxury wedding and party professionals. Additionally, I am the Chairwoman of the Moving Image programming for the NYC National Arts Club. We create intriguing public programming focusing on film, television, and streaming services—from Andrew McCarthy’s Brats to Whit Stillman’s Last Days of Disco, Martha Stewart’s Martha, Diane Von Furstenberg’s Woman in Charge, and many talented producers, directors, and costume designers. We have been fortunate to work with presidents, politicians, Oscar winners, community activists, and outstanding performers over the past twenty-five years. We have designed some interesting and epic after-Oscar events in Los Angeles, but we would love to design a memorable experience for the Academy Awards, perhaps some of the White House galas, and destination events in new areas we have yet to explore. Individually, I would love to work with Tony Robbins, Oprah Winfrey, and Taylor Swift, to name a few. We aim high and shoot for the stars!”
