INFUSION WEDDINGS

Many of my overseas couples are drawn to a sense of intimacy, elegance, and authenticity. They often want their wedding to feel like an elevated gathering – something personal and poetic rather than overly formal or scripted. Nature plays a big role – whether it’s exchanging vows in a castle garden or hosting a candlelit dinner in a restored manor. There’s a real appreciation for heritage, but also a desire to reimagine it with modern style and intention. Design-wise, they tend to favour timeless palettes, layered textures, and meaningful details over trends. Think bespoke paper goods, thoughtful tables-capes, locally inspired menus, and live music that reflects the spirit of Ireland…”

I love introducing couples to Irish traditions that add depth and meaning to their celebration. We talk about what feels authentic to them, then find creative, thoughtful ways to weave these elements in. Some choose a hand-fasting ceremony, a Celtic ritual symbolising unity and commitment. Others might incorporate Irish music during the drinks reception, serve local fare like soda bread or oysters, or gift guests with handcrafted Irish keepsakes. Even subtle touches – like using native florals, Irish linen, or calligraphy in Gaelic – can infuse the day with a quiet sense of place. It’s not about ticking a box, but creating moments that feel rooted, intentional, and memorable…”

C&B: “Sandra, Ireland is renowned for its romantic ambiance, attracting couples from around the globe. What inspired you to focus your expertise on wedding planning for both local and international couples in and around Dublin?”

SS: “When I first started out on my journey in wedding planning, I was captivated by the emotional depth of weddings and the unique way they unite people through love, food, and beauty. My background in hospitality provided me with valuable experience in orchestrating events, and I sought to incorporate my passion for interior design and curating experiences that are both personal and meaningful. As time progressed, I began to work more with international couples drawn to the allure of Ireland, who required a local expert capable of navigating the complexities of time zones and cultural differences…”

C&B: “When it comes to couples from overseas, how do you specifically tailor your planning services to meet their requirements?”

SS: “For any couple, planning a wedding from abroad can feel overwhelming, so my role is to be their eyes, ears and creative partner on the ground. I have designed my services specifically to make the experience seamless and stress-free. I start by understanding their story, style and priorities – then translate this into a curated wedding concept rooted in Ireland’s beauty. And because I’ve walked this journey with so many international couples, I know how to anticipate their needs and guide them through the process with calm confidence. The goal is for them to arrive in Ireland feeling excited, ready to celebrate, knowing everything has been beautifully taken care of…”

For overseas couples, getting legally married in Ireland involves giving at least three months’ notice to a local registrar, submitting key documents including passports and birth certificates, and possibly attending an interview if one partner is from outside the EU. A registered solemniser must officiate the ceremony, and the marriage form signed on the day must be returned to receive the official certificate. With the right guidance, it’s a smooth process – and one I support every step of the way…”

C&B: “What do you believe are the factors that most often attract overseas couples to get married in or near Dublin?”

SS: “Dublin offers a rare combination of historic elegance, natural beauty, and warm hospitality – all within easy reach. For many overseas couples, it’s the charm of saying “I do” in a castle, manor house, or Georgian estate, while still being close to an international airport and vibrant city life. Ireland’s rich culture and traditions create a welcoming atmosphere for guests. Many couples also have ancestral ties or romantic memories of visiting Ireland, so getting married here feels both meaningful and magical…”

I only recommend venues where I know the service is exceptional. A beautiful backdrop means little if the experience behind it isn’t seamless…”

C&B: “What factors do you consider when selecting venues for weddings in the area?”

SS: “I begin with the couple’s vision – how they want their day to feel. Do they imagine an intimate dinner-party vibe in a walled garden, or a grand celebration in a castle ballroom? From there, I consider the aesthetic, flow of the day, guest experience, and of course, practical logistics. Accessibility is key, especially for destination weddings. I look for venues that are easy to reach from Dublin Airport, offer quality accommodation for multiple days, and have a layout that supports both beauty and ease. Natural light, architectural character, and seasonal surroundings also play a big role. I want the setting to elevate the design and reflect the couple’s story…”

With my wedding vendors, it all starts with trust, shared values, and a deep understanding of my clients’ vision. I’ve spent years building relationships with talented florists, photographers, stationery designers, and stylists who not only excel at their craft but also bring warmth, professionalism, and flexibility to the process. Every couple is unique, so I curate my vendor recommendations based on style, personality, and priorities. I also stay curious and connected by attending networking evenings and styled shoots, keeping an eye on rising talent, and collaborating regularly with creatives who are pushing the boundaries and standard of Irish weddings…”

C&B: “Are there any particular strategies that you use to ensure smooth communication with clients who are planning their weddings from abroad?”

SS: “Clear, consistent communication is key when liaising with couples from abroad – especially when we’re working across time zones. From the start, I set up a structured yet flexible process so clients feel guided, informed, and cared for at every stage. We use an online planning platform that centralises guest management, budgets, To-do’s and vendors – so couples can check in at any time, wherever they are. I also schedule regular calls and check-ins to walk through key milestones and design decisions together. Ultimately, it’s about creating a sense of calm confidence. Even from thousands of miles away, my clients know they have someone on the ground who truly understands their vision and is handling every detail with care…”
