My couples come from diverse backgrounds across the globe, which I find to be truly remarkable. Each individual brings with them a unique life story, and I am immensely grateful for their willingness to share these narratives with me. I consistently aim to foster a profound connection with the couples I work with, and I regard myself as incredibly fortunate to be entrusted with their personal stories and secrets. This trust enhances the intimacy and significance of the ceremonies I officiate…”

Giovanna Costantini is the founder of Jo Ceremony Services, located in the picturesque region of Puglia in southern Italy. As a wedding celebrant and a celebrant for various life events, she provides invaluable support to couples and collaborates closely with colleagues, including wedding planners, for both civil and religious ceremonies. As she was raised in Germany, Jo is fluent in German, Italian, and English language…
C&B: “Jo, you have been influenced by various European cultures. What inspired you to become a wedding celebrant?”
GC: “I have always loved to write about feelings and life itself. I started to support colleagues, and after almost 10 years, I decided to finally put my name under the ceremonies read by other celebrants. My inspiration always comes directly from the couples themselves – from their vibe and the stories that they tell me. Our lives are influenced by our upbringing, our environment, and our experiences; it is wonderful to hear and to read all those things…”

Each wedding I have officiated is memorable in its own right; however, one of my most cherished moments occurred when a couple participated in a tree-planting ritual alongside their baby boy, while sharing their personal vows. This moment beautifully encapsulated their commitment to one another and their family…”

C&B: “You must visit so many beautiful venues in your work – which are your favourite wedding venues/locations, and why?”
GC: “It’s quite challenging for me to choose just one venue, as each location possesses its unique charm and characteristics. However, I have a particular fondness for small, ancient *Masserias due to their enchanting atmosphere and historical significance…”

EDITOR’S NOTE: Masserias are traditional farmhouses that can be found primarily in the Puglia region of Italy. These ancient structures, often constructed from local stone and featuring rustic architecture, are typically set amidst picturesque landscapes of olive groves and vineyards. Many Masserias have been restored and converted into charming venues for weddings and events, offering a unique blend of historical charm and natural beauty. Their rich heritage and tranquil settings make them a sought-after choice for couples looking to celebrate their special day in an authentic Italian environment.
C&B: “So much goes into planning a wedding and couples may like to know if you organise the legal formalities, or do they?”
GC: “Typically, my couples handle the legal formalities themselves; however, I provide support whenever they request assistance, which is often the case. I also offer guidance related to the religious ceremony, ensuring a seamless experience…”

In my ceremonies, I strive to incorporate a harmonious blend of Italian traditions alongside those reflective of the couple’s heritage. One particularly beautiful tradition is the Wine Ceremony, during which the couple shares a glass of blended wine, symbolising their union…”
