COMO: OLIVE SKY EVENTS

There’s definitely a trend towards embracing the drama of the surroundings at Lake Como. Couples are leaning into bold, atmospheric styling and layering in elements that play with the richness of the setting – like incorporating figs, pomegranates and other vibrant fruits and vegetables into the design. There’s also a move toward multi-day celebrations: think al fresco welcome dinners, late-night parties, and relaxed next-day brunches with a sense of continuity and character…”

C&B: “Jennifer, your video (above) gives clients a very good impression of the work that goes on behind the scenes of any significant event – what first inspired you to specialise in destination weddings?”

JW: “We’ve always had a deep love of travel – especially around the Mediterranean. There’s something about being close to the water that feels completely cathartic and cleansing. The scenery abroad is often otherworldly, and that’s exactly what we aim to reflect in the weddings we create – settings that feel just a little out of the ordinary. The food and wine are certainly a welcome bonus too!”

C&B: “Yes, around the Med are many beautiful locations suitable for staging an outstanding event, whether in the south of France or Italy! What was your first project in the area and how did it come about?”

JW: “Our first Italian wedding was in Tuscany, for a couple from New York who wanted something relaxed and soulful. It took place at a private villa, and we brought in a wonderful team of local suppliers to help us create a stylish, heartfelt celebration that really reflected the couple. It was a joy to plan, and it cemented our love for designing destination weddings in Italy…”

We take care of everything from concept to execution. That includes full planning and design, on-the-day coordination, guest travel and accommodation support, itineraries, and those small, thoughtful touches that make all the difference. We ensure that couples – and their guests – feel completely looked after throughout…”

C&B: “A private villa always adds a sense of intimacy; which are your favourite venues and locations on Lake Como, and why?”

JW: “Villa Erba is a personal favourite. It has hosted countless fashion shows for high-end brands, so when one of our beautiful clients was looking for something majestic and culturally rich, it felt like the perfect fit. There’s a real sense of history and old-school Italian glamour there. We also love Villa Balbiano for its cinematic scale, and Villa Pizzo for its romantic charm and timeless feel. Some of the quieter, lesser-known villas are equally magical and ideal for a more private weekend-long celebration…”

C&B: “These ornate historical venues are a dream, particularly if the clients aren’t from Europe. In your opinion, what do you believe attracts your clients to Lake Como and what unique qualities do you find make it an ideal setting for a wedding?”

JW: “Lake Como is iconic – it has a very film-worthy glamour. The combination of water, mountains and historical architecture gives it a depth and atmosphere you don’t often find. There’s a certain elegance in the way the light falls, the boats move, the air feels. It’s instantly transportive, and perfect for couples looking to give their guests a full experience rather than just a day…”

The best time to marry around Lake Como is typically between May and early October. July and August can be quite hot – and busy – so we suggest late spring or early autumn, whenever possible. Weekday weddings are also a great option for more flexibility and availability…”

C&B: “Yes, it’s impossible to convey just how incredible the entire scene is unless you’ve been there yourself! What about the local traditions – do you find your clients want elements drawn into their ceremony?”

JW: “Yes, and there are lots of lovely traditions to draw from – from the relaxed aperitivo hour with spritzes and antipasti to live Italian musicians or symbolic touches. Regional dishes can also add character to the menu, and we often weave these cultural elements in gently so that, rather than staged, they feel thoughtful – a signature of the Olive Sky Lake Como experience…”
