HAWAII: KEKAI BOSHARD

I serve all the islands from Big Island to Kauai; I was born and raised in the small town of Kailua Kona, on the west side of the Big Island. The majority of the couples I film either fly over to the Big Island for a destination wedding or want someone who truly understands the cultural aspect. I’ve worked alongside some of the best vendors in the world, such as the renowned designer Eddie Zaratsian and the super-talented violinist Daniel Morris, who won the Best Live Music Award in 2025. I’ve been receiving more inquiries from California, so I’ll soon be filming these weddings on the US mainland…”

Here in our Summer 2025 CITY & BEACH ISLAND WEDDING series, we meet again with Kekai Boshard of Hiticket Films, a high quality videography company based in Hawaii which also provides an international service to weddings and events…

C&B: “Kekai, Hawaii is one of the most exotic and remote locations for a wedding – can you elaborate on how the local culture and traditions influence the weddings you film?”

KB: “For one, God must be at the centre of the marriage. The closer a couple is to God, the closer they will be to each other when they become one body. The culture expressed during a wedding ceremony is likely to give attendees chills and leave them in tears, as it is genuine and they are sharing their mana. One can always tell the difference between a real ceremony and one that is merely an imitation. Always. Whether attendees expect it or not, that aspect of experiencing the culture will leave a significant impression on them…”

C&B: “That sounds incredible and deeply meaningful. What time of year offers the most picturesque backdrops for weddings in Hawaii, and what makes the experience with Hiticket Films so unique?”

KB: “I would say it’s probably the summer period is best for weddings; it does get hot, but the sun doesn’t set until a lot later. We do have some of the most famous sunsets in the world and the energy is always here in the summer. What’s most likely to resonate with our clients is their experience with us and how we treated them, took care of their needs and handled each situation with grace…”

More than just the landscape, it’s the energy we’re able to capture. When couples fly to Hawai’i, they’re looking for that genuine, authentic aloha spirit. Some wedding vendors have it, some don’t; being a native Hawaiian, born and raised here, I can tell the difference…”

C&B: “Hawaii is notable for its strong cultural heritage; could you discuss the role that Hawaiian music and dance often play in weddings, and how you capture these elements through your videography?”

KB: “True Hawaiian music expresses our culture in a way nothing else can. It comes deep from the soul and tell stories of the past. Most likely, if a bride has chosen specific music to play and plans on dancing hula for her husband, she may have an important connection to that particular song. Hula is not only dance, it’s a form of storytelling…”

It’s always in Holualoa that I have my best weddings. The reason being is that Holualoa is away from the rest of the town. Not only is Holualoa serene but it’s private and so it allows everybody to just be themselves. The energy feels like it belongs to them and the couple, the family can just be their most authentic self. And in doing so are able to receive more openly…”

C&B: “What do you believe are the key emotional moments during a wedding in Hawaii that you strive to highlight in your films?”

KB: “The ceremony is the first real milestone of the wedding day. From then on, I want my clients to be fully immersed in their moment, not letting anything external distract them from being present. After that, the emotions just flow out! I let the moment play out; let it be organic and felt. That way, I have the opportunity to observe what’s going on at a highly intuitive level. The bride and groom are emotional, their bridal party is tearing up, and the parents are proud and crying. I let that just happen, and I capture it. Being a part of the energy that is geared towards my clients having the time of their life!”
