My approach is not merely about arranging flowers; it’s about storytelling and crafting immersive floral experiences that feel effortlessly beautiful yet intentional. Flowers possess the power to transform a space, evoke emotions, and create an atmosphere that lingers in memories long after the day is over…”

Kat Josey, the Creative Director of Kathryn Josey Flowers, specialises in creating romantic, abundant, and nature-inspired floral arrangements for weddings and events. Her business is situated in a beautiful studio located on a farm deep in the countryside on the Berkshire/Hampshire border, approximately one hour outside of London. In the lead-up to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025, we discuss Kat’s distinctive floral décor and how she makes the dreams of her clients come true…
C&B: “Kat, your floral arrangements are outstanding and we’re delighted to feature your work in our RHS Chelsea Flower Show series – which areas of the country do you cover and what profile of events?”
KJ: “We cover the whole of the UK for weddings and events; we’re often in the Cotswolds, London, and everywhere in between. We enjoy decorating a marquee wedding just as much as a grand manor house or a hotel with an epic ballroom…”
C&B: “What first inspired you to pursue a career in floral design, and how do you infuse your personal aesthetics into your creations?”
KJ: “Flowers have always been part of my life. I’m a third-generation florist, so I grew up surrounded by flowers in my family’s flower shops. My formal training and years of experience have shaped my style, but my passion comes from the artistry of flowers playing with texture, movement and composition to create something truly breathtaking. My signature style is romantic, abundant and nature-led. I love the outdoors and being in nature, I like to design flowers as they would grow in nature, roses that ramble, clusters of stocks and delphiniums standing tall, I think this approach is impactful and elegant and it’s what we are known for…”

I love seeing couples embrace large-scale, immersive floral designs. There’s something magical about walking into a space filled with flowers and foliage, it completely transforms the atmosphere. Whether it’s a dramatic floral arch, a meadow-like aisle, or a cascading tablescape, these statement pieces create an experience rather than just decoration…”

C&B: “How do you collaborate with couples to ensure their vision for floral arrangements perfectly complements their overall wedding theme?”
KJ: “It’s all about understanding their style, vision and priorities. I take time to get to know my couples and the aesthetic they’re drawn to. I guide them on where to focus their floral investment for the most impact, ensuring the designs not only reflect their personalities but also enhance the venue and overall setting. The details are important, I need all the information to create the magic, so I ask a lot of questions…”
C&B: “Yes, it’s so important to get direction from the couple rather than only through the planner. What practical advice would you offer couples who are selecting flowers for their wedding?“
KJ: “Trust your floral designer, we know how to select the best seasonal blooms and create impact in all the right places. Focus on the overall aesthetic rather than specific flowers, as availability can vary. Some of the most breathtaking arrangements come from allowing creative freedom, letting us choose the freshest, most beautiful blooms to bring your vision to life…”
C&B: “That sounds like great advice! What has been the most unique floral arrangement you’ve been asked to create for a couple’s wedding, and what made it so special?”
KJ: “One of the most memorable was a wild, overgrown floral arch designed to look like it had been growing naturally for years. We built it in front of a grand historic doorway for the ceremony using an abundance of rambling roses, trailing smilax, English foliage and clusters of blooms arranged as they would grow. It felt like something out of a fairytale and the couple really loved the final result…”

Flowers are everything when it comes to atmosphere. They dictate the entire mood – whether it’s a soft and romantic setting with delicate pastels and floaty textures or something bold and dramatic with deep, rich tones. Flowers create a sense of occasion and leave a lasting impression on guests…”

C&B: “Although you have a very distinct technique, how do you stay updated on the ever-evolving floral design trends and seasonal flowers available?”
KJ: “I’m always pushing myself creatively, whether that’s through attending floral workshops, collaborating on editorial shoots, or experimenting in my studio. I also regularly visit the market and the flower farms to see what’s best and what’s in season that I can use in my designs. I prioritise timeless, beautifully considered designs for weddings, as trends can come and go…”

“I’m here to make my couples’ vision a reality. When they’re looking for more than mere decoration, I fulfil that dream, ensuring they enter their venue filled with breathtaking, artful florals that serve as an extension of their love story…”

C&B: “Floral designers are amongst the most hard working individuals that we know! Can you describe a particularly challenging floral project you worked on and how you successfully brought the couple’s vision to life?”
KJ: “I once worked on a wedding set within the ruins of a historic abbey. The couple wanted the space to feel naturally overgrown, as if the flowers had always been there. The challenge was that nothing could be attached to the structure due to strict preservation rules and access was limited. To bring their vision to life, we created freestanding floral installations with trailing foliage, garden roses and delicate meadow flowers, carefully positioning everything to feel effortless yet intentional. The end result was beautifully romantic, and seeing the couple’s reaction made all the problem-solving and planning completely worth it…”

I love venues that offer a beautiful balance of grandeur and intimacy. Some favourites include Somerley House in Hampshire, Heckfield Place and Cliveden…”

C&B: “If you were to sum up the essence of your floral design and business motivation, what would you say?”
KJ: “My floral design service is all about artistry, emotion and creating an unforgettable atmosphere. I consider texture, movement and colour to transform spaces into something extraordinary. My ability to balance luxury with a natural, effortless feel. But, what truly sets my brand apart is my experience, I’ve worked on so many weddings and events for my own clients and as a trusted freelancer to other top florists, tackled all the challenges, honed my skills and creativity and I really enjoy working with flowers. I couldn’t imagine ever doing anything else – I love it…”
